The Virginia Tech Urban Entomology Laboratory is committed to providing accurate information and customized help regarding urban pest issues. Our mission is to help the public understand the biology, behavior, and prevention of bed bugs and other urban pests. We work with industry sponsors to ensure product efficacy and to evaluate different control methods for bed bugs, cockroaches, ants, and termites. We also provide consultations, training programs, and education workshops for pest control technicians, apartment housing staff, and residents dealing with pest problems. Current research projects include: assessment-based pest management for German cockroaches in public housing, determining the costs and efficacy of sulfuryl fluoride fumigation for bed bug elimination, and evaluating novel control methods for bed bugs.
