The Virginia Tech Urban Entomology Lab is committed to providing accurate information and customized help regarding urban pest issues. Our mission is to help the public understand the biology, behavior, and prevention of bed bugs and other urban pests. We work with industry sponsors to ensure product efficacy and to evaluate different control methods for bed bugs, cockroaches, ants, and termites. We also provide consultations, training programs, and educational workshops for pest control technicians, apartment housing staff, and residents dealing with pest problems.

Welcome to the Bed Bug and Urban Pest Information Center at Virginia Tech. We are here to educate the public on all bed bug and urban pest issues.
The Dodson Urban Pest Management Laboratory at Virginia Tech is committed to providing accurate information and customized help regarding urban pest issues. Our mission is to help the public understand the biology, behavior, and prevention of bed bugs and other urban pests. We work with industry sponsors to ensure product efficacy and to evaluate different control methods for bed bugs, cockroaches, ants, and termites. We also provide consultations, training programs, and educational workshops for pest control technicians, apartment housing staff, and residents dealing with pest problems. Current research projects include assessment-based pest management for German cockroaches in public housing, studying the development of bed bug eggs, and evaluating novel control methods to control bed bugs. Novel control methods include fumigation, whole-home heat treatments, and biological control with a fungal spore.
