Hemlock
Woolly
Adelgid
This pest has been killing hemlock trees within landscape and recreational areas, as well as sensitive forest habitats. The Hemlock Woolly Adelgid sucks plant sap at the base of the needles. The needles fall off and twigs often die back. Eventually, trees die.
Scott Salom is conducting reserch on the biology of this pest. Improvement of sampling methods and biological control are parts of this program.
