Description and Purpose:
Biotic and abiotic factors can have tremendous influences on tree establishment, culture, and survival. Knowledge of the interaction of these factors with host trees in different ecosystems enables pest management specialists to enact strategies that reduce susceptibility of the hosts to target pests and diseases. Just as critical as prevention is the action taken to monitor, evaluate, and reduce the impact these factors have on trees. In this course, you will be introduced to the agents that cause stress and mortality of trees; to the concepts of pest and stress management within both forest and landscape settings; and to the technologies that are available to manage some of these tree problems.
Student Evaluation:
The lecture section of the course will be worth 60% and the lab section 40% of your course grade. Each of three lecture exams will be worth 20%. Dr. Salom and Ms. Hansen will each have lab assignments worth 5% and a lab exam worth 15%. A description of Ms. Hansen's' lab grading will be listed soon. Beware!! Exams will be difficult and require serious studying.
