A study involving over 50 continuous cornfields in western Virginia has been
ongoing since 1992 to evaluate the Olson yellow sticky trap as an inexpensive
scouting tool for monitoring WCR adults. In 1993, 30 continuous cornfields in
Montgomery Co. were scouted for WCR adults using the Olson yellow sticky trap.
All 30 cornfields were scouted weekly for WCR adults during July and August.
The results of these fields and subsequent root damage rating data for 1993 and
1994 will be evaluated in an overall analysis designed to validate an economic
threshold used in predicting damage caused by WCR larvae.
