Abstract: Trichogramma ostriniae is a tiny parasitic wasp that was brought to the U.S. from China in the mid-1990s. Research in New York and other northeastern states has demonstrated strong potential for biological control of European corn borer in sweet corn. Current research projects by Tom Kuhar in Virginia include: 1) evaluations and optimization of the parasitoid for ECB control in peppers and potatoes, 2) dispersal of the parasitoid after augmentative releases, 3) effect of crop architecture on parasitoid behavior, and 4)integration of pesticides with T. ostriniae.
