Nature of this course

This course is, for the most part, is self-paced. Students must be motivated and willing to work outside of the traditional classroom setting. Due to the nature of this course, you will be required to take exams and quizzes at certain times, instead of at your convenience. In most distance learning courses, you will not be able to take exams in the privacy of your home. Exams must be taken in the presence of a proctor to ensure that students adhere to the Honor Code. This is one of the few instances in which this course does not follow the 100% on-line course format. Some students find that they are not the "distance learning type". Such students are unable to pace themselves and fall behind in the course. Our message? If you are well-disciplined, well-motivated, and can pace yourself outside of the classroom setting, this course is for you!

E-mail is a very good way to contact us no matter what the time of day or night that you think of a question. Some things for you to know about E-mail:

  • it is usually relatively instantaneous but not always. Sometimes it may take hours or even as long as a day or two for us to receive an E-mail message.
  • we get a lot of E-mail in this course, other courses, and from our other job duties. You are important to us, but because of the volume of mail, it may take a while for us to respond. For example, we have a received more than 125 messages from this course in one day. Please be patient in getting a response.
  • make sure we received your message if it is important to you. Send a follow-up message if you haven't heard back in 48 hours.
  • CALL or see us personally if it is really important.
